Quality > Quantity

I don’t want to write another post explaining why it’s been several months since I made any sort of meaningful update; so I won’t. Instead, I’d like to use this opportunity to share with you all the future of this website and what to expect.

During this “hiatus,” I consumed a lot of media; mostly movies, TV shows, and video games. 2024 has been a great year so far in regards to entertainment so I have loads of material at my disposal. One minor change that I will be making is getting rid of the “rating system” in all reviews going forward. It just seems redundant since I use the app, Letterboxd, to rate movies I’ve watched. But really, I just use that app to document movies I’ve seen and get recommendations from friends. I will be pulling films from that list and use this space to dive deeper. Books are the only medium lately that I have not absorbed nearly as much as I should, but I plan to rectify that soon as I’d like to talk about more novels in my posts.

Reviews won’t be the sole focus of this blog. There are numerous topics of discussion within the world of entertainment that I’d like to touch on and hopefully start a constructive conversation or, at the very least, provide a different perspective.

These days, because of the internet, society is consuming more content than ever at an increasing rate as our attention spans slowly dwindle. People want things fast and they want it now. Like everyone, I am constantly inundated by the barrage of online articles tailor-made to my interests. At first, it was a great way to see what was going on in the world around me. But now, I just get frustrated at the lack of thought and depth in which these authors are regurgitating into the world in order to get as many views as possible. And I understand it’s because of money. Obviously. However, the problem now is that quality has gone down significantly.

These authors are grasping at straws in order to keep pumping out content quickly. For example, every article I come across has some ridiculously long title. I can’t even count the number of “This Skyrim player discovers hidden secret after 3,000 hours of gameplay and it will blow your fucking mind when you realize it’s been staring at you in the face for the past 13 years” headlines I’ve seen on the internet. Or I see headlines that say, “Star Wars fans lash out at the latest announcement from Lucasfilm” and then proceed to fill the entire article with links to four or five different posts from Reddit.

It’s sad and lazy but that’s what I’m seeing these days. Authors spend all their time on Reddit just to find something to write about, especially if they’re searching for something that aligns with their opinion to appeal to the masses.

I don’t want to do that with this website/blog. As much as I want to write more often, I would rather produce something fun or insightful or meaningful. My plan is to post every Friday on a topic of my choosing. It might not happen that way all the time but that’s the goal for now. As mortal beings, time is the only valuable currency we possess, so if you choose to spend it here, I thank you and I hope you feel that it was well spent.
