A Novel Progress Report 8

April was a far more productive month than March, even though it didn’t start out super great. The first couple of weeks were difficult for me mentally, but once I got into a groove, I managed to get the next 8 chapters revised and edited.

A lot of those chapters mostly focus on character development and story, which are a bit easier for me to get through. I’m usually just fixing grammatical inconsistencies in each paragraph and adding little bits of detail to fill out the world a little more.

But when I get chapters that really start moving the plot forward, I have to take a step back and examine everything in much closer detail. These are the chapters that take me the longest. I’m trying to change certain aspects around to make for a more cohesive and somewhat believable plot. I mean, it’s a fantasy novel, so there’s a little bit of wiggle room as far as crazy plot ideas. The problem is making it believable for the reader. So, these sections have been a little tedious, but also fun at the same time.

I’m always coming up with new ideas, which is exciting! When I first began this process, it started to feel tedious on the whole, but as I’ve gotten into a nice rhythm, I’ve grown a lot more confident in the words I’m putting onto the page. I’m actually enjoying it more than I was when I started the first draft. My editor was right, though. This is where the real work begins and the creativity can really flow.

So far, I’ve managed to finish the first 14 chapters, which is halfway. I had hoped that I could have this process complete by the end of May, but that’s definitely not going to happen, especially since I’m at the point where the plot really moves forward. My new estimate is end of June to have this process complete but I’ll revisit at the end of the month and readjust from there if needed.

I also wanted to briefly talk about this blog. My updates have been sporadic and stale. For those of you still reading, you probably know what I’m talking about. The last few posts I’ve made, I sort of rushed through them more than I usually do. The quality has gone down significantly, at least to me. So, I’m gonna try not to rush through them as much.

Also, I realize that most of my posts have mostly been about TV shows. Though, I did write a couple of posts recently about video games. That’s another area I need to work on: variety. Last year, I watched a shitload of movies and I’m trying to keep that going in 2025 too. I think I’m gonna try to focus on writing about as many movies that I watch as I can, whether it’s good or bad. I need to get back to exercising my creative muscles and make these posts more fun and enjoyable to read. If I feel like what I’m writing is a drag, the audience will feel that as well.

My goal is to write at least 2 posts a week. I have a schedule laid out and I’m determined to stick to it this time.
